Yes, I heard this a couple of days ago. I heard some recent details, not sure I want to post on a public forum.

Not good, but looks like he will recover, just a matter to what degree.

This gives me yet one more reason to hate 4 wheelers.

Why that's something anyone would have any desire to go along with I can't fathom. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Its not the 4wheels, but the stupid things people try to do on them.

The dumb thing is the four wheelers are worse than the three wheelers which are worse than the 2 wheelers and stupid people in charge that have no knowledge on the subject tell everyone just the opposite.

I watched that enough times to wonder why get talked into that kind of stuff. Was this run for a film? If so, and if it the first time and you don't want to come up short, it begs the question of what happened to the calculations for ramp speed? Where any done?

Such a short vehicle going that fast and landing end-on like that probably flipped a bunch behind that veil of dust. All kinds of bad accelerations imparted to the body. Not good, at all.

Phil is the stunt guy in the family and always looking for a new challenge. Travis Pastrana and crew did a lot of planning and set up on the stunt/record attempt. He posted a video of the test run, which went fine. Pat has hung out and ridden with Travis and Phil. That's what he did instead of the riding US World Round last year. He and Phil are wild and crazy guys!

Travis Pastrana posted a video of one of the “test jumps”, which went absolutely perfectly at 180 feet (oops, i just that was just posted as i was typing this). He also said they aren’t sure what happened when things went wrong. It kinda looks like when the thing went front wheels high, the big, massive skid plate underneath caught air like a parachute... seems like his trajectory flattened out as he starts to descend.

The video from just beyond the landing ramp that shows his impact is absolutely brutal. Haven’t seen an “official” list of injuries, but I’d say he is lucky to be alive. Hoping for the best...

In the crash jump it looks like he was going faster and got up higher than what was shown in the Pastana video.

Those vehicles have auto clutches. I wonder if that makes regulating speed by rpm tougher?

The practice jump wasn’t meant to be as fast/as far as the one he crashed on. The 180 feet was a “warm up.” The crash occurred when he was attempting to break the UTV long distance jump record, which when I looked it up is currently around 240 feet.
