Not going to be able to make it. Wife has decided that week is the week the family goes "Down The Shore"!

OK, enough of this diversionary tactic stuff. Back to riding in the Pine Barrens.

Nice group showed up at the Village Donut, and Sal, the owner, got up at 2 a.m. to make us all fresh stuff. Nice!

The bikes (two DRZs, one TransAlp, an Africa Twin and an 1190 KTM):

NJ-Bill, any chance you could change the title of this thread?

How about Pine Barrens mid-week Hooky and Weekend rides- 2017

    I would add that we can also collapse the SOF rides into this thread;

No hooky ride for me this week - cycling and sailing all week.

Bill, thanks for changing the title. Should help.

You back in town for this weekend? I don't think I'm gonna do the Ramapo. Little bikes, anyone?

Man you guys suck, I would have loved to do the Tuesday ride! Instead I took the Roadstar down South for some seafood. Anyone up for a ride Friday or this weekend?

Weather for Sunday July 9th is looking pretty sweet!

How about an Atsion start at 9:00? Maybe explore the West side of 206. I'll be bringing the little bike this time.

The best time to ride. No Dust! And most puddles have go-arounds!

    So, you're in?:-)

    (Shakes 8 ball)...Future looks good! :lol3

Questions: How technical is it? I've got a KLR with Shinko 804/805s (similar to TKC80s).

Also...I've got street gear. I guess I need some off-road chit? Tell me what you'd rock as 'required gear' - I usually ride with a composite/mesh jacket & boots. Gloves if it's colder out. (street stuff).

The most interesting thing about the Pine Barrens is that the trails are always different, depending on the previous rain and how long the sand has been baking in the sun. Often, the softest sand is at the intersesections, where the tree coverage is lighter.

So, to answer your question, I usually stay on stuff that a jeep can manage. So, legal two track or sand highways. Your Shinkos will be fine, if not too warn, but you will have to figure out sand technique.

So, here are the details again for the ride Sunday, July 9:

Atsion Ranger station parking lot July 9th Sunday
    Meet 8:30, riders meeting 8:45
Kickstands up (gased and ready to go) 9:00 a.m.

Depending on who shows up, kinder and gentler rules.
