I am safely stashed in the guest house @Coconut Cowboy place on the west coast of Costa Rica.
Only a 15 minute drive to @Reaver place....

I'll mossy up to Reaver's place later today and see how well stocked the garage refrigerator is .............. :beer

Last time I was in CR his resort was just an empty lot, I'm anxious to see the result of all the hard work he and Becca put into it :drums

The last two nights I was in Tamarindo with the Cowboy ...
We met a "mature" surfer dude that has been surfing for 40+ years and covered 30+ countries....
    The stories he tells.....

    Here's a preview release:

"Man............ Back in those days --- After 1/2 of a Quaalude and a gin-and-tonic I'm the funniest guy in the bar. The girls all loved me"

Back then, I'd hang out. Today, I'd edge away. Times do change a man, or some.

I've never surfed before, but surfing is penciled into the schedule for "soon" ;-)

Sorry ... more correctly ... I flew back to the USA ...

@Coconut Cowboy was kind enough to offer me a corner of his carport to stash the bike, and a spare closet to stash my gear! :clap

Yeah... but ... I'd have had to hire a "ghost writer" :photog

Yes definitely flying back to continue the adventure.
Going at least as far south as Panama, and am starting to evaluate the options for seeing at least part of South America ...
From reading some other threads like @LoneStar and @CanuckCharlie it would seem that crossing the by boat is a bit <ehem> chaotic?
Crossing by plane less of a dumpster fire, but costs maybe $1000+ each way ....

There's got to be a thread on that topic here somewhere - I need to find it :deal

Oh yeah it would have been a great story ... but I'd have had to hire a "ghost writer" :photog

I'll be flying back after the first of the year and head at least as far south as Panama for a view of the new Panama canal.

I may head on down to SA to see Columbia / Ecuador / Peru if I can iron out some details on crossing the Darian Gap...
Based on the trials and tribulations of a few other adventurers @LoneStar and @CanuckCharlie the ferrys seem a bit of a rodeo...
Not sure the air freight is better and at $1000+ each way it's sure as hell not cheaper ........?

there's got to be a thread on that somewhere ... I need to find it :deal

A plan is a good thing, even a bad plan is better than no plan. Solo, or hooking up with others for the push south?

Hey JR! The ship costs $1100-1200 but you do get 3 or 4 days of a good time on the water unless you get seasick - basically $550 for the bike and $550 for you. It's part of the adventure :D Not sure but the Stahlratte may be nearing or finished with bikes for the season

I think shipping by air (Getrag?) and airfare together are about the same as the sailboat. Upside of air is saving time and keeping electronics free from salt corrosion. None of our group had bike issues but I've heard others have.

Sharing a container is a bit cheaper I hear.

No matter which way, git down to South America if you can :thumb

    Thanks @LoneStar !

I am susceptible to sea sickness ... but have not tried out some of the latest technology available for preventing it,
so maybe I'd be OK ... I am not in a hurry so saving time is not a priority.

I contacted Getrag and it's now $1,100 each way for just the bike.

I've not thought about the "season" ... having completly "winged" this trip so far...............

Some nutjob I know suggested flying to Ushuaia buying a cast-off motorcycle ...
He says there are plenty around and prices are cheap?.. getting clear title may be another thing............
then ride my cheap bike up to Columbia ... (set it on fire just kidding ;-) and fly back to Costa Rica pick up my real bike and ride home?
He says ... only half in jest :drink

a plan is a good thing... so far I've ignored my OCD propensity to plan and just hopped from one fortuitous circumstance to the next .......
But ... alas ... all good things must come to an end ..........
Maybe it is time to actually sit down and plan .... :pynd

Well, looking at my thermometer, which is at a balmy 8 degrees, figuring it out where it is warm is a much better idea!
