Another fun fact SA people may appreciate most. The first 24 started where Gepps Crossing is now which would have been out in the country side back then.

I thought it started in town mainly because Lenroc motorcycles were involved with the event. And I've seen many photos of the trial start/finish which are definitely in Adelaide? ??

I only read it somewhere maybe on one of the 24 FB sites or a news paper and sure there was a photo of but don't remember the photo that well, maybe the area was already developed at that time?
It only started there one year I remember

As Leigh said the 24-36 hour used to start in Adelaide at several locations the old East End Markets on East Tce was popular in the 50's, the trial could head out in any direction
the hills and south was popular in the earlier years. Riders used to carry a clock with them one story I heard (True) was a rider pulled into a control and no one was there, the
control was setup in the carpark of the Victory Hotel. Rider walked into the bar and there were all the control keepers half charged having a good time. I remember seeing the
Trial start at the Gepps Cross Drive-in I think. The first time I started was at the Ingle Farm Shopping Centre (bloody disaster for us our 1st DNF), then as Adelaide was expanding
it moved to Willaston then onto Kapunda - Eudunda.

Ha Ha started going to the trial from about the age of 6 or 7 years old with my Dad, seems to have lost its charm a bit though, guess I now have other motorcycle interests, still a great event

Wow. What an amazing event. Thanks for posting that, I got a better sense of what this is about. To say I'm fascinated is putting it mildly.

If I remember the Len Beadel? books, the Gunbarrel construction crew crashed into the pub one time.
