Well, as far as I know the standing thing is ok in Texas. I stand all the time. Sometimes for miles. I do it all the time in traffic for brief moments to see over cars and trucks.

I think I'd be all over my representatives and starting petitions if they tried to outlaw it here. Stunting is definitely stupid, but standing is totally unrelated. It's amazing how idiotic and uninformed our lawmakers are.

over here its all about revenue creation, not common sense or safety...

apart from standing and riding, some really stupid (IMO) infringements include:
    • lifting one foot of the pegs (to greet another rider)
    • not having at least one hand on the bars whilst riding (don't adjust your chin strap!!!!!)
    • having your car window rolled down more than 25mm when left parked and unattended
    • and the list goes on...

Wow, I know people who leave their windows down all the way and their glove box open. That's to keep their car from being broken into, you also want a note telling people not to lock up your car. Nightclub workers in San Francisco.

"And don't use the merge lane as your own passing lane, mm'k?" - motorcycle cop who pulled up to me at the next light.

More rhetorical, but still. . .

To be fair, using a merge lane for passing is a pretty bad idea. :dunno

Anyway....Not really a question, but I've been told that I'll never get laid if I ride a 250.

I was riding the Gorges du Verdon in the South of France. At a scenic site, overlooking the Lake of St. Croix, I stopped for a photo. Also stopping there was a Mercedes G 600 Brabus. This is a €380.000 car and out came three Korean’s in Armani suits. After taking the photo, one approached me to get his picture taken with me and the BMW GSA. Then they jumped in the car again and were off.

The biggest market for Rolls-Royce (also in the €400K range) is freshly-minted Chinese millionaires. Average age of an RR buyer is 35.

about my parked bmw gs lc 16':

Random drunk guy: "nice motorcycle, collector?"
me: "no, it's a tourist motorcycle"
Random drunk guy: "Is it expensive?"
me: "a little bit, like the average car"
    Random drunk guy: "80,000 bucks?"

Probably the most expensive serial motorcycle in the world ;)

I want to say it was Cartersville but I could be mistaken. It was a couple years ago.

I wasn't asked this but thought it a sad commentary on how others view motorcylcists. I was leaving a sandwich shop after having lunch, geared up and ready to get on my bike, and saw a girl, maybe 8-10 years old walking up to the car next to me. She had a worried look and her hands over her ears. I said to her, "It's OK, this bike isn't loud". She seemed skeptical but her mother repeated what I'd said so she took her hands down as she got into the car and mom strapped her in. I started up (wethead GSA) and putted off - as quietly as I could.

Yeah, I had a mother tell her kid to cover her ears for my stock DR650. It was so quiet I had a hard time telling if it was running some days.

I was in Daytona during Bike Week several years ago, sitting at a traffic light with my buddies. They were all on Harleys and I was on my butt ugly 95 R100 GSPD, BMW. A guy in the car ahead of us jumped out with a camera and asked if it was okay to take a picture. My buddies on their shiny HD's, proudly said yes no problem. The guy with camera said, "No, not you guys, I want a picture of the BMW!" I about fell off the bike laughing. I still remind them about this on occasion. Racer

Similar to the last one, my stupid question was to approach a guy on an African Twin and his wife/GF on a Honda CBX500. I started the conversation out by saying is that the CBX500? He laughed and said I'm so tired of everyone coming up and asking us about the CBX and not the AT. Nothing against the AT's, but we had seen lots of those, and i had not seen a CBX before.

years ago when Triumph rereleased the bonnie, my buddy had a Bonneville Black.
we met in texas that winter for a week of riding.
I rode up from Florida on my new BMW r1150r... every single gas stop someone came up and asked about the bike.
He drove down from Colorado with the bike in the back.
Once we started our ride no one asked about the BMW. It was all about the bonnie.

on the ride home, again every gas stop someone came up to me.

I guess out of the two bikes the bonnie wins every time.
