Sorry to ask such a simple question, but the obvious isn't working. I copy the "link", but it doesn't work on ADV. Could it be because I'm using a trial period?

afaik there are no trial periods on ADV :D And no, I doubt that's the issue.
    1. manually right click and choose "copy" the url generated:
    2. upload_2017-7-13_15-14-29.png
    3. When you create your ADV post, click the little "picture" button upload_2017-7-13_15-16-45.png
    4. paste the link acquired in above step, and then click "insert"
    5. Post the reply.

That's what I've done. And the copied link shows up as the box above.

Your address needs to end in .jpg or .png. When on Smug Mug right click the picture and "copy image address". The address looks like this
    h t t p s://photos.smugmug.com/My-First-Gallery/i-FxjSh7F/0/1e52f0a7/L/IMG_7292-L.jpg
You had copies the smug mug gallery address from the address bar which looks like this
    h t t p s://barryellman.smugmug.com/My-First-Gallery/i-FxjSh7F

But I am guessing ADV is now smart enough that if you jsut enter either adsress (without the spaces in https so it wouldn't dispaly the image) it will jsut post. Dont even need "IMG" code

Odd. That little IMG placeholder appears when links are broke, incorrect, or may contain extraneous characters..

Assuming you are using a windows pc, try again and "edit" your previous post (to which I am replying now) and switch to BB Code editor using the right most button on the edit tool bar. upload_2017-7-13_16-5-52.png

Then either copy all content and paste it and post back here so we can see it, or if you know how, take a screen shot and post it here. So we can see what is going wrong with your photo link.

Here, what I copy is the highlighted text (it's called URL - uniform resource locator)

    upload_2017-7-13_16-11-29.png

What I paste in my post looks like this:

    upload_2017-7-13_16-12-19.png

And after I click "insert" and "post reply" you can see this:

Hit "reply" to my post to see what the link looks like. Use the BB Code editor to understand better..

OK, thanks everyone for your help. The one step I was leaving out was "select size". Once I did that, the .jpg link showed up! Cool!

I, like many others in the internet world, am scrambling to find a photo host for our pictures, since the photobucket upset. I was turned off my smug mug due to the cost. Right now I am testing imgur. Seems ok, but I think all my picture there are public.

Smugmug is reasonably priced, at $3.99 /mo (with a year paid) imho. How much cheaper can it get?

Now that I know how easy it is to use, I've signed up for a year's subscription. As you say, not that much. Less then $40 a year. Not bad.

How can I get a link from the smugmug Android app to post a photo to advrider? I can do it from a browser but not from the app.

    [IMG]Hmm...

Not sure why this isn’t working... :dunno

Seems to have had something to do with the default smug mug settings... turned everything “off” and it works... but I can’t even get rid of the bad links in this post.

FWIW I was working on uploading a ride report yesterday and for a period of about 40 minutes it just would not load my pics from Smug Mug. Got ticked off and walked away for a little, came back, and voila! Success! I can only assume one or both sites may have been too busy or some other such nonsense was harshing my mellow.

    Question:
If I have a SmugMug account and I cancel my subscription...
Do my posted photos on forums break?
Like does the link go bad or do they still exist on the server and show correctly where posted?

    @Baldy maybe knows best?

Yes, if your photos are linked from Smugmug and you cancel your account, your links will no longer work.

I just tried to update an FM ad with some new pics of a different item via my Smugmug account. I ended up with those cute little rectangles and red x's. Sumptin' change about using Smugmug links?

Thanks in advance, and thanks to everyone who made the swap in such record time. You guys are the greatest!:clap

*edit* I just went back and tried again, and everything works fine through the preview phase, then goes all red x-ey when I try to post the changes.

We had a technical issue after the migration of the servers when the site was shut down for a day. I saw those red X as well, but now the smugmug hosted pics are appearing properly. If you still see a red x, refresh your browser, they now should re-appear.
