Packing is done, bike is ready, friends are ready, credit card balance is zero, my brain is reset, online dating sites are updated, and now it's time to just relax and ride.

Trailering Pearl (I've grown tired of fighting the winds and heat across the Plains) out to an inmates home in Mena OK. VT700guy has graciously invited me to store my truck and trailer at his place. Much appreciated :thumb

My two traveling buddies Jeff and Ben will meet me there. Jeff's riding a brand new Africa Twin and Ben will be on his trusty 2014 DL650. The morning of 25 May we'll head west eventually making a turn to the north at Rachel Nevada.

We'll be visiting many of the places I've come to love and I look forward to sharing them.

The ride will be about 12,000 miles.

Some Colorado passes, the beauty of Utah, the desolation of Nevada, the Gravelly Range road in Montana, The Ice Fields Parkway, Dust 2 Dawson, the Top of The World Hwy, the Dempster Hwy, the Dalton Hwy, the Denali Hwy, and the stunning Salmon Glacier are all on the list.

I'll be posting most days. Info on road conditions, fuel/food/lodging availability, and stuff to help others who are headed to the top will all be forthcoming.

I want to thank in advance the many friends and inmates who've contacted me about accommodations and support. Many of them will join us for some of the ride.

I (we)'ll be traveling pretty slow. Gone are the days when I needed to get somewhere fast in order to have time to enjoy. I have no real schedule, no responsibilities, no debt, and not a single human to answer to except myself.

As the ride progresses I'll post reviews of stuff I'm using on the ride. And of course how Pearl treats me...and in return how I take care of her.

And speaking of Pearl....she's a brand new 2018 DR650se. The thread for her build is here.

You can also find bunches of info and our tentative beginning schedule here at my planning thread for this summers ride to the top.

    Thanks for coming along....

    Look forward to your updates.

2 of us are trailering from Texas to Bellingham to catch the ferry on July 9.
We weren't interested in riding 1900 miles in the summer heat either....
We'll be starting our ride from Haines and eventually work our way back to Bellingham.

Many have asked if I'll be filming for a new video series...yep. Here's the stuff I'll be using to document the ride.

iPhone 6s Plus, a small waterproof
Nikon AW130 point and shoot, and a tiny Go Pro Session. That's it.

I only shoot in 1080p @30fps. I have no need for more. All my Youtube vids are edited and uploaded in 720p and they look just fine to me.

I just want to tell a story and let the story be the focus, not the megapixels and buttons. I don't want to be bothered with all kinds of gadgets, cords, batteries, lenses, chargers, and having to take a bunch of time to "get the shot". I shoot on the fly and for me, the less stuff the better.

I never do any video editing on the road. At the end of the day al I want to do is hang with my homies and lie about all kinds of stuff :beer

Bike looks great Tim. I enjoyed your build thread. I like the idea of owning/riding a basic and simple bike, I have often entertained the same idea for my future ADV bike, KISS... (keep it simple stupid)..., I hope to do a North/Alaska ride next year, was entertaining the new T7 from Yamaha, but then I start to get nervous about hi-tech stuff, ...FI fuel pumps, ...ABS systems.. etc. I really like the mods you did on your DR.

Looking forward to following along on your ride, Cheers!

Everything packed and fitted on the AT . Then started performing a final check of items on my packing list , ok good to go . Then realized left camping chair in closet since it was not on the list.
Repack and reload but now done. This trip has few different items than all my trips around the US on the FJR. First time with heated gear, chain lube and tubes.

Tim and Ben got your rooms ready for Saturday night. Hell.. you guys are even getting clean sheets.
Tim since you have a percussion background you get the 3rd floor with the drum room.
Look forward to seeing you guys.

I'll post pics of the bike tomorrow.
