That's pretty similar to my setup on my 17AT(DCT) for my Alaska/Dempster trip this year. Looking forward to hearing about how everything works out for you.

In! This trip is on my bucket list. :lurk I had a DR650 for years and that thing was literally bomb-proof. I loved that it was oil cooled and carried like 4 quarts of oil; very difficult to accidentally run it low.

Hey tewster, I might suggest putting leashes on those expansion plugs in case they pop out as you ride. I work with those things (plugs in groundwater monitoring wells) and you can tighten them with pliers and they'll still sometimes pop out easily... It would suck to lose one way out yonder.

I'm 100% behind your plan to trailer across the plains - I've ridden across several times and it can be brutal.

    Happy trails!

It's 0400 and I'm sitting on the couch having a coffee....can't wait to turn on the boob tube so I can watch the royal wedding....not....thinking....have I forgotten anything....my travel kit has been pretty well sorted over the years but I still get that feeling in my tummy just before I leave on a long ride that something important like a small roll of toilet paper or a razor I'll need to shave my legs has not been packed....the stress of daily life is slowly fading with each sip of the brown stuff that's stained my teeth over the years....can't look like Brad Pitt forever I guess....excited about meeting new friends in OK, Calgary, and other places the coffee will help me remember.

Already thinking about the fall trip....that's a good sign that I've done all I can to prepare for the current preoccupation....

Oh....I'm not taking a laptop this time....again refining the kit....only a new 6th generation 128gb iPad....I can do everything I want or need to do with it. A little dongle allows me to plug in a SD card to back up my silly photos and vid clips....easy. The iPad is protected with an Otterbox Defender case so it should travel well.

    KimKey-Lightning-to-SD-Card-Reader-for-iPad.jpg dc7c10d8-da7e-4fbf-b509-0c01913b9d01_1.99e3d0c78bfe30b7dff9a9a6fec37b98.jpeg

I've been using a base model Garmin Montana 600 for many years now....perfect for me....but....I copied my .gpx database to a spare SD card should the thing crap out on the road. That way all I have to do is have a new Montana shipped overnight to me....pop in the SD card....then all my waypoints and other stuff will be good to go.

    More after the break....

Have another safe glorious trip, Tim. When I grow up I want to follow in the same tire tracks as you. I, unfortunately, will have to do so without your Brad Pitt like looks. Keep it cheap! :ricky

Hope you all have a safe and wonderful trip.

Right now, I can only dream of a trip like that. After seeing your ride reports the last 2 years, probably the only thing that would make me come back would be the cold. Can't stand cold.

The DR should be a really nice ride on this trip. Looks like you have it well set up. I know we are all looking forward to the ride reports trickling in from the road.

Ride on good Sir, ride on!
