Yeah, 2nd gear and idling seems to work really well. Modulate with the clutch, not throttle.

Had a great time stayed in Kerrville, rain and snow the day we arrived. Went to Fredericksburg and visited the Pacific War Museum on December 7th, what an awesome humbling experience. Ride for 5 days on and off road around Medina, Leakey, Doss, Luckenbach, 3 Sisters and many Ranch Roads. Crossed several Slick Rock water crossings, had a couple near miss Deer collisions and 1 Armadillo. 20171207_110030.jpg 20171207_113035.jpg 20171208_131440.jpg 20171208_171224.jpg

Great thread!!! Most don't realise the amt of AWESOME riding and "special" places we have in TX. Lifetime of trips to make in the areas mentioned in this thread, one leads to another and another and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. The only problem I see is trying to do too much in one trip. Good job guys.

My wife and I will be in the hill country in April then travel down through Alpine and Big Bend. Good info in this thread. Glad y'all had a good time. I was there last year with some friends but it rained when we were in the hill country.

Of all days to go the the Pacific War Museum, I believe you chose the best. I'm glad your experiences with the hill country deer only amounted to near misses. That snow was a total anomaly. It must have followed the northerners down.

Don't overdo it and pass up all the good stuff. Each spot you mention is worth at least a month to just scratch the surface and plan future trips. Good luck.

We've been to BB before and done a lot of hiking. Probably won't do much this time, although we would love to do Emory Peak again. We'll do a lot of riding in the hill country and see the Nimitz Museum. Probably have a Lone Star in Luckenbach and maybe some BBQ along the way. Always too much to do wherever we go. Now, if I could just win that lottery, we could explore it all.

heading that way next week. Staying in F-burg for a few, then off to Alpine and Big Bend area. Finishing up with 2 days around Leakey, then 3 days in San Antonio. Usually riding from one food joint to another.:clap

Been raining all winter but it looks like you'll have great weather, course that may change next week.

Stay away from Austin if you were thinking about it. SXSW is in town and, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but there will actually be more people in town than usual.

I've wanted to go to SXSW, but the thought of huge crowds keeps me away. We've ridden this trip several times and the weather can always be a factor. But I always hope for blue skies !!
