Bam Bam? He's put up a FB post which says "you were my strength #HRC" note the past tense. Or maybe he is just talking about Dakar 2018. Who knows - his rider profile is still on HRC.

It won’t be the first time KTM and HRC have got together and decided not to compete in an event, they have done it at both Phaorons and Sardegna, plus none of the riders like Qatar and this year to get to Qatar after Abu Dhabi will be a real challenge with all direct routes blocked!

When Qatar changed their dates at the last minute, directly conflicting with Sonora Rally, we lost a couple of top riders. One of those factory riders told me the Qatar rally was no fun and he was pushing his bosses to come to Sonora instead. Unfortunately they were already too far committed to Qatar to make any change. We are pushing to win that battle next year, and maybe get the whole lot to come to Mexico for a far better experience!

I just saw on Cyril Despres' Facebook page that he/they've officially announced the end of the Factory Peugeot DKR team/project...

'So long, and thanks for all the fish[tailing] etc.'

The times they are a changin'

ps. I saw a photo of Marc Coma holding a Repsol trials helmet recently too...

This is NOT a trials helmet. Vemar's MX helmet.

I wish I spoke French. I'm hoping that Soultrain's showing in the rally up until his crash encourages other manufacturers to enter the fray. Yamaha has a (relatively) small budget but they were making KTM look mortal for the first time since....forever. Just goes to show that a cubic dollar effort like KTM or HRC isn't necessarily the only path to the top step.

Are you seeing that in an article somewhere? I don't see any mention of it in the usual English language sources.

He is entered in an SMG buggy for Abu Dhabi (link) but it looks like it's his own team :dunno

With Toby Pies being given a start at 14th and as long as he doesn't have a DNF I would say the organizers have handed it him on plate and it should be his to lose if he rides well today!

He should take time of all the top guys today and with the last stage being a mass start he should have preserved that time over an even number of 4 days when the last days thrash to the finish starts - it will be interesting to see how young Ignatio Cornejo gets on this week, especially today as he is only 2 places ahead of TP at the start.

Ricky B is also not badly placed with these start positions.
