Vila de Leyva, Colombia. At the market and around town

As promised/ threatened, here are more pictures with captions. This time from Vila de Leyva, a short hop north of Bogota. No bike pictures on this biking website. Muy tres bad, disculpe! Just daily life in Colombia, people, markets, a horse taking a dump in a wedding photoshoot and a dinosaur! Pictures in no particular order, just the order I took them...

They said "Set up a stall on the way to the market, and the people will come..." On the way up to the market

It's Friday, so it must be fish

    Waiting for the hoards

    Presentation is important. Or not

    Too early for a smile

Busier now. It's nearer to lunchtime

The lunch stall: Not necessary a place for vegetarians or vegans...

    Smells great

I'll have a dozen apples and 4 avocados, Senora!

Vege seller: Still dressed from last night's pumping the tunes in the nightclub. It's important to be cool

My favourite picture from this set

    Stray dogs

Happy to be at the market

Follow the cairns for the right direction

Catching up with the font of wisdom

It's overcast, so the hat stall is a bit quiet

Cool dudes on bikes get the ladies...

Central square. It was great sitting out here in the evenings with beer from the bottle shop, watching the world go by

    ^^^ Wot he sed

Happy for the moment. You're now under her thumb!

Hiding in plain view. While the photographer takes wedding pictures, the chauffeur catches horse poo in a bucket!

    Ice-cream treat

Dinosaur up the road. While waiting for a bus to get back to town, some locals asked if I wanted a lift... Si, muchas gracias!

Much appreciated the time you put into this Excellent RR Mate!

Do all the stray dogs have collars there? Seems weird...

I'm happy that you have found the time to read this RR and give feedback.

I recon I got it wrong with regard to the stray dog caption. Clearly if they have collars, they'll belong to someone. I have to say I didn't look closely enough at the picture, although spotting the horseman catching horse dropping in his bucket didn't slip my eye :-)

Colombian dogs were generally well behaved, in terms of chasing motorcycles or trying to chew my ankles. Probably based on the attitude of their owners and that it's a tad too warm to be running around the roads. While Peru was my favourite country in South America, Peruvian street dogs are the worst in the world, IMHO. With very few exceptions they ran at and after me. One did misjudged his attack somewhat and got a bit too close. He ended with the steel toecap of an Alpinestars Tech 6 MX boot in his teeth. I missed the other 99%!

Barichara. Chilled pictures from a chilled town

Once more no bike pictures on this biking forum... What is the world coming too? Chlym stayed back at the posada while I took multiple wanders around this pretty little town.

One of the tiendas on the main square. Everything a man needs. And tables and chairs inside to provide a shaded ambiance to consume them

    The chicas ride motorcycles too.

What year did that Merc roll off the production line in Stuttgart?

Comings and goings on foot, 2, 3 and 4 wheels

    Central park

Puss sizing up supper. So near, but so far. Especially if you can't fly...

Little girl in church. On her Facebook on the phone?

    Said church

    Church steps and park

Down the road to the church

    Shade offered by the trees

Another church a few blocks from the main square

Santa Marta, north coast of Colombia. The final chapter of this ride report

I sincerely hope you've enjoyed dipping into this story of mine. If you want to travel further afield, stop talking about it and start doing! Also, stop spending a lot of money on random bling out of some random catalog. The less you spend on sh!te you don't need, the more you can spend on gas and beer!

Santa Marta. Did it! One (partially?) clapped out ugly bloke. One (definitely) clapped out ugly motorcycle. 20.000 miles = 30.000 km. Pretty extreme oil consumption (the bike). Extremely loud silencer (the bike... and the man??). A happy chappy. Beats working for a living. Time for a mojito and beer chaser...

3 different styles of aqua-line transport

Fisherman prepping and selling his produce on the beach

    Nearly everything sold

Prepping the catch for the family lunch

    Catching up with a friend

One night in 2001 there was a power cut between midnight and 4am. During this time all the boats left and returned to the harbour. As we know, Colombia is the main export location for el Beechams powder, the raw materials having been grown and manufactured further south, from where it head to the markets further north and north east

Catching up con amigos. Who genuinely needs Facebook status updates....

Give it a few more years of peace and this entire hillside will be full of houses

When you have to cope with daytime temperatures and humidity, you can understand why people come out to meet and chat after dark

Quick, take a photo of my new plastic fantastics

You can checkout, but you can never leave. The ceiling fan is just above the sign... So hot and humid on the Caribbean coast

Kids taking a swim as the sun sets

2016: Radamel Falcao, Colombian footballer, once of Manchester United, looking good on street graffitti

2001: Colombian footballer, Carlos Valderamma showing me how to do hair...

I think it's utterly deplorable to use bare women's bottoms to sell vinyl records (and motorcycles). Disgusting! Just been to the local court to get a legal stamp on the bill of sale/ poder. With the Chlym's new owner....

You don't need viagra, you need to go to the Willy Gym!!

In 2001 I shipped the Wife in a container with an American SWB Toyota Landcruiser (driven by a German) and a German Yamaha XT600 (driven by a German... there's a common theme there somewhere...) from Colon in Panama to Guayaquil in Ecuador. In between I flew via Cartagena and Santa Marta to Ecuador. Story at http://www.thebrightstuff.com/ch15.htm

2001. What do they sell here, I wonder?

    2001 fish seller, in town

A 2001 British Airways poster promoting flights to the UK. Should be in court for trade descriptions/ misselling. The sun never shines in England, or ok once a year maybe, last Thursday, if fact.

OK in 2001. Scuba diving off the Colombian coast
