A bunch of us Middle Easterners (of Pennsylvania) decided to celebrate the Hermy's BMW/Triumph Open House, featuring Speed Channel's Michele Smith, with a easy dual sport ride. We figured on meeting at Hermy's early, so we would return in time for food and fun with Michele.

My buddy, Makman, just bought this 1200GS from Hermy's 2 weeks ago. He's anxious for a group ride and some off road fun. 8 AM, we leave my place to take the back way up to Hermys to meet up with the rest of the gang.

We're first to arrive at Hermy's, followed by CAT0020 on an XR650R supermotard.

Action is starting early today as Hermy's ACE salesman, LudiChris gets smoked by this Triumph Trophy rider.

    Most of the gang is here, me-KTM 950, Makman-1200GS, 1stiski-KTM 950, CAT0020-XR650R, Joe-KTM 640 Adventure, and MSMetz-1200GS.

Walter B-Transalp, Not2fast-DR650, and Brian-Tiger show up and we're off. I just purchased a new Pentax camera to replace my Fuji which died last week in Bangor, ME after taking a picture of a Harley dealer. The Pentax and I haven't quite sync'd yet and my action shots consisted mostly of ground and sky, however, I did manage a few shots worth looking at.

CAT0020 managed to loose his license plate during the ride. Dude, it's only a 77 mile loop, you can find it, I'm sure!

MSMetz brushing the dust from his jacket. It hasn't rained here in some time and the dirt roads were mighty dusty. Sometimes it good to be the leader.

Makman, had a great time on his 1200GS, his first group ride and off road venture. He said he almost dropped it three time, I said that he made three excellent saves!

Not2fast and his DR650. He's a life RORR member, so you know he can ride! 1stiski, he's looking for Michele...

The legendary Walter Barlow took a break from leading rides, came out and joined us. I sure hope I showed him a good time.

Hermy's was packed! We had a heck of a time shoehorning our bikes into the crowd.

After some grub, the line to see Michele had shortened, so I jumped in to wait my turn. Michele is way prettier in person, and I'm feeling pretty shy. I ask if I might have my picture taken with her. She says, "Sure thing. How about we take it with your bike?" I tell her that my bike is parked way on the other side of the lot. As she's walking out of the garage bay she says, "No problem, which one is yours?" This one here.

Then she says, "How about a picture with your buddies?" I almost got knocked down as they all rushed in.

Michele was great! She spent the whole day autographing pictures and running around the parking lot taking pictures with patrons and posing on bikes, and smiling! Here she is with my buddy Jason.

Jason is scary fast. Above the dent in the tank of his GSXR1000, he written, "In search of Jesus, one curve at a time". I hope he doesn't find Jesus too soon.

Ahhh, here's Michele again. Did I mention how great she was?

Meanwhile, from the batcave... CAT has made himself a new license plate to ride home.

After our fill of food and Michele, a bunch of us head for the Weiser state forest just up the road from Hermy's. There' not much riding there, but fun is fun and there's no telling what might happen. That's for sure.

    Here's Makman at the top.

There's a fire tower lookout at the top. I'd love to get up there and take a look around.

    BASTARDS!!!

1stiski and I take off up this two lane. After a bit, I stop, grab the camera, and run back down the trail to capture some action shots of the rest of the boys coming through. Here's Not2fast.

He's beeping his horn and there's no one behind him. Not a good sign. It seems that Brian's Tiger has sprung a major oil leak. The rest of the pack is waiting back near where we entered this little two track. Triumphs are known for leaking a little oil, but running this motor was not an option.

Brian, "So, does anyone have a rope?" Yes, I do. I don't always carry it, but for some reason I packed it for this ride. Ready to tow.

I towed him up to the top of the gravel road, untied and he coasted down to the bottom to route 61. After pushing the bike across, we tied it up again and I pulled him down to Hermy's.

Hermy's closes at 2 PM on Saturdays, but they hardly ever get out anytime near 2. Luckily, they were still there and we pushed the Tiger into the garage. Hermy was either going to take the oil line off the Tiger on the showroom floor or give Brian a loaner bike to ride home. Hermy's is the best!!

Here's a couple more shots of the Tiger. You can see the puddle on the ground. Also, there's oil all over the rear tire. Not good.

This is a better shot of the crushed braided stainless oil line.

the "Don't block the twins boys" ride :lol3

This is what Michelle said as we were setting up for the group picture and someone stood in front of her. I agree, she was funny, witty, and gracious. Now, if only she would host an adventure riding show!

Great ride- a classic big trailie route. Well worth the 2 hour 1 way ride there. Do it again, starting a bit closer to NJ :D

Only one picture- just as we were getting ready to leave.

Thanks again for putting this together.

Looks like I should have stuck around for the second ride. On my way home, 47 miles with my "temporary license plate", my GPS unit returned to life so I took all single lane roads. I rode pass two patrol cars going opposite direction, gave me good adrenelin rush each time.
I got off a few snap shots during the ride..

Nightstalker, thanks so much for having that rope!!! :bow :bow :bow Definitely something I am going to keep in my tool pouch from now on!! Life would have been a lot more difficult if it didn't happen where it happened and when it happened.

Hermy's had an 03 Tiger sitting downstairs, so he just let me have necessary oil line off of that one and I was back on the road!!! What a dealership. :clap :beer

Thanks for the great ride and we'll be doing this again real soon. Let me rephrase that, we'll be getting to ride again real soon.

Nightstalker managed to find enough dirt / gravel roads for us to put together a really good ride, although it was a bit dusty, as in can't see anything 2ft in front of me, for those of us in mid-pack and back and the highway sections managed to clean out the carbon build-up in my DR650's muffler!!

Michelle Smith was great. It was not the typical "here's a photo, keep the line moving" type apprearance as you get at many other events. Like Walter said, we need to get her to host and Adv Rider show...

I was riding next to Crashman when his oil leak started and I still can't figure out what he might have hit to damage the line. I suspect those new TKC80's thew a rock back and hit the exposed oil line. He might want to work on a skid plate to fix that weakness before the next rock outing.

The two guys on the new 1200 GS did a great job of hanging with the group in spite of having zero visibility in most all the dirt road sections.

For sure we have to do this again sometime, perhaps a Western Sch. Co ride?? :lol3

I don't know if you could say I did great. It was really dusty. I was better off hanging way back of Mark on the red GS so that I could keep my visibility as good as possible. I also forgot a huge thing that might've helped a bit. When we stopped off for gas at the Sunoco in the middle of nowhere I should've dropped the ABS. :loco

I had a great time. Nightstalker and I did the long, long way home. I think it took nearly 90 minutes to get home from Hermy's. I hope I didn't hold you guys up too badly.

Thanks for putting the ride together. Shame we had the problem with the Tiger, the track through the forest looked promising.

Hey, I think I know that dealer.

That's relatively "just up the road" from the monster Cabela's isn't it?

I've been out there twice but it was closed both times on the weekend. Wound up at the big HD dealer a bit farther down the highway from there.

You're dead on Kingsqueak. The main road there is PA RT61. If you exit Cabela's head up 61N for about a mile or two at the most. Hermy's is open 9-2 on Saturday and closed on Sunday. I believe it's Schaeffer's HD up in Orwigsburg up past PA 895.
