    I am assuming that my add-ons from my 2013 Tiger XC will bolt right on to the 2018 Tiger XCX as it does not look like frame or geometry has changed. Things like rear rack, Wolfman racks, skid plate, engine bars, fog lights. Does anyone know for sure?

    Your new XCX should already have a decent skid plate and lower engine guard. The wiring for your fog lights would need some re wiring as the XCX has a different pre-wired connector for the newer fog lights.

    Thanks Steve. I have not pulled the trigger on a new bike yet but was just wondering out loud. My local dealer does not have one out yet as we are in full winter conditions so I cannot even take a look at the 2018's yet.

    Finished up my first big solo service last night. Checked my valve clearances and all were within the recommended range. At 28,000 miles all exhaust valves were 0.33mm (low end of range) and all intake valves were 0.15mm (middle of range). The valve check ended up not being as daunting as I first thought it would be. You just gotta have all the right tools and space to lay everything out to stay organized. Throttle body balance was already spot on using the DealerTool. The 1 and 3 cylinders would flutter between being the same as 2 cylinder or 1kPa lower. Old spark plugs had normal wear and were replaced. Same for the air filter. Not very dirty but got replaced anyways since I had a new one.

    I got the Triumph engine service kit and had some leftover pieces. About 6 o-rings of two different sizes, three Torx screws, and two gaskets. Figured those pieces were for if a shim adjustment was required.

    They changed the front mounting points for the skid plate in 2015, however, you can just drill the old plate to accommodate like I did going from a 2011 XC to a 2015 XCx.

    A while back I reported an issue where my brakes seemed to go bonkers at slow speeds. Changing the brake fluid and exercising the ABS module didn't fix it.

    But what seems to have fixed it was -- Unbolt the ABS sensor from each wheel and clean any grease and shavings off of it. Mine had picked up metal filings over the years.

    If you do this, the little washer goes between the sensor body and the mounting point. There should be a few MM of clearance between the tip of the sensor and the sensor ring when it's properly assembled.

    Also be really careful when you first remove the sensor from the rear wheel. That little washer ended up going INSIDE the rear alloy wheel and it was a real pain to fish out.

    I pulled the trigger on a 2017 XRX with 2500km (1550 miles) this weekend. It was a dealer purchase and I could tell they were really willing to negotiate this time of year. Not a lot of business up here in Sweden when it's below 0 C and snow on the ground. Plus, it helped they don't have the new 2018's in yet.

    The bike had the panniers + heated grips and everything else 'missing' from my last bike.

    My now 'other' bike is a cb500x which I absolutely love, but I just grew to miss the that extra HP and creature comforts I've grown to need for the long hauls. It's a blast on the tight roads, but getting there over long stretches just got old. Even after 3 years I'd still kept looking for that 7th gear. I think I'll keep it and put a Rally Raid on it.

    I'm headed to Spain in april and Bolzano in May so I hope those long boring stretches will be more tolerable now. And of course now double the HP on the Stelvio! :-)

    Oh yeah, and I really look forward to being apart of a all these new threads...

    We did a 350mi ride yesterday and the forecast was for high winds, in NM high winds can easily average 30mph and usually gust much higher, needless to say we were getting blown around allot. Heading west into the wind I was getting 28mpg at 83mph. My dash will give real time fuel consumption so I did a little experimenting, @ 79mph it bumped up to 33mpg which was the best I saw for highway speeds into the wind. On the way home it was getting 61mpg at 75mph. I was shocked at the differences. If the speeds seem excessive to you guys it's because we had 85miles to travel on I-40 and 80mph is just staying with traffic outside the cities on that highway. Not my preferred route but there's few options to go due west out of our area.

    Takeaway: when planning a trip with range concerns consider the wind in your range estimates if you're riding at highway speeds out west.

    I usually get about 200 miles/tank....drops to 160 if I'm really getting on it. Recently I was riding into a South Texas headwind at freeway speeds (75-89 mph). Ran out of gas with 137 miles on the clock!!!

    Yup, riding against the wind you’ll use more fuel.
    What I found surprising is a fuel consumption skyrockets as 6,000 RPM is exceeded.
    That’s when a 7th and 8th gears would be nice. There’s no reason to tach 6,000+ to accomplish 80-85MPH. The same can be done at 3800RPM. After all 85 isn’t that fast...

    I put in some of that Ride-On tire sealant stuff today and nothing blew up and I didn't die.

    It's a little messy to put in, and it's almost impossible to get it all out of the bottle, but I got close enough to 9oz in the rear tire and 7oz in the front.

    But if this means I never have to static balance my tires again then GOOD.

    Ride On sealant for motorcycles is OK to use in both tubeless and tubed. I'm gonna put some in my XCx tubes before I head out on my 4k mile trip in July. I've used it in my past bikes, and fortunately, never had a chance to see if it works. I couldn't feel any handling differences. Nice thing about Ride On vs. Slime is that the Ride On sealant is much cleaner come tire change time. Run the bottle under hot tap water for a couple minutes and it squeezes out much easier. It does have great test reviews. Cheap insurance.

    It's likely safe to use in tubes, and may be effective against small punctures, but there's likely a point at which the tube damage becomes something that the sealant can't adequately handle. Thorn vs nail vs screwdriver vs steel edge.

    Their claim:

    Ride-On TPS will eliminate 85-95% of your flats in tubeless tires from objects up to 1/4" (1/8” for tube tires)

    Correct mine is a roadie.

    The puncture protection was another benefit. I haven't yet had a flat occur while riding, but the margin of safety is so much thinner on a bike with 2 wheels vs a car with 4. If it can slow the leak and give me time to find a safe spot to pull over, then that helps.

    Correct .. As above, I look at it that maybe it buys me a few extra miles to get to a safe place if need be.
