Is it possible to turn the GPS device off/on while it is in the cradle* and the key is in the on position and the engine is running?

The manual speaks to a "power key" but I think that is a key in the 4 button cradle.

Do not think so. Why do you want it off? You can turn the display off using the wonder wheel in one of the side screens.

I cannot read your yellow text.
    What's the deal?

Wonderings is correct. Turning the display off is a menu choice. I think that’s the only way besides removing the unit to have it off while in cradle and ignition switched on.

Does turning the display off actually turn it off or simply make it create a black screen? I guess my question is in regards to the Navigator V but I'm assuming the IV would work the same.

The menu choice on the VI says Turn Display Off. Likely puts it in that sleep mode.
