Can someone explain why routing with Brouter is significantly faster than Osmand's built in routing?
I dunno then, in the last 6 months I have seen one random reboot after about two weeks of uptime. seems pretty solds here

E-Tape as shim stock is still working -- no more spontaneous reboots (YEAH!!!)
Just wanted to say, i found this thread after researching which GPS unit forever. Eventually decided to try out a kyocera brigadier from ebay for 50$ and that was the best decision. It works great with free offline maps apps, GPXviewer and other mapping apps. Much cheaper than a standalone GPS, and as much, if not more functionality. Still learning it but has been working great so far. Also it is water and shock resistant as well as has QI charging capabilities. I plan to add QI charger to my hondo perfect squeeze for a fully weather proof set up. Thanks to everyone for your knowledge.
I soldered on a 4in long JST connector pigtail over a year ago. Some good electrical tape to strain relief the wires and seal the pinholes. A little dilectric grease in the connector.
Peel off the tape and I can still open the back by sliding the 4in wires through the holes.
If it breaks I can plug in the USB.
Sounds good. I like the new avatar, btw.
Wait a minute... I'm confusing you with a cat of the same name on the Weapons Guild.
Does it start rebooting when the battery charge is very low or even when the charge % is high? That would indicate whether it is charger/cable or battery/phone related. It could be the cable you are using is not cutting it. Another possibility is the plug/interface between the cord and phone is not supported well and vibs are causing a poor/intermittent connection. Try routing the cord so that it loops back under the phone (thereby becoming clamped in place) so it does not move independently from the phone.
It does seem like it happens more when the battery charge is lower.
For the hard restart, I never plug in until I'm at about 25%, so that would naturally be after the battery has discharged a bit.
Like many here, I didn't want to spend $400+ for a dedicated GPS and looking for alternatives. After reading the this, i decided to take the plunge and bought a DFP on eBay.
It arrived Friday. So far, so good. Updated the OS to 7.1.2 even without a SIM card and GPS works in airplane mode. I'm a street rider so I installed Osmand, Waze, CoPilot and Google maps to see which I prefer. The big challenge is getting my head wrapped around Android after using iOS devices for many years.
Many thanks to everyone who contributedbto this thread!

It's a steep learning curve initially - but well worth the effort. I just used my DF XD for a 12,500 mile trip to/from Alaska. It stayed on the handlebars through some truly awful weather, logged every twist and turn, and provided spoken directions (when needed - navigation in Alaska and Yukon is hardly complicated) through BT to my helmet communicator. I dealt with two "issues" along the way:
In very heavy rain, drops would occasionally act like screen touches and bring up the home screen or something like that. It happened a few times and was irritating but ultimately harmless; and
At one point it quit charging (I had it connected to a charger all the time.) I found a small bit of blue corrosion gunge in the USB port and scraped it out with a fingernail. That and a quick squirt of silicone spray into the end of the USB cable solved the problem. Obviously a small amount of water had wicked its way in around the plug. A small dob of silicone grease would have prevented it.
Hey all, the slipgrip pro seems like a great mount. Snaps in tightly yet easy to remove.

HOW could you update the DFpro to Android 7.1.2? Which carrier do you have? My AT&T won´t update it is still Android 6.
Must be a Verizon phone, they put out an update. Sprint and AT&T phones did not get the update.
Yes, it’s Verizon. I went for a Verizon phone because they’re my carrier so I can pop a SIM card in and use the DFP or add it as a new device.
I have a verizon with a bad mepi for nav that got the latest up date and also an AT&T as my everyday without the update... be cool if one phone could download the operating system to the other but i guess maybe that would be getting into what rooting a device is about.....
Can't flash Verizon operating system on ATT.
This is why I love Google phones. Didn't receive the update OTA yet, they probably have it posted on their images page. Easy to flash without even unlocking the bootloader or rooting.
I purchased a AT&T DFP before realizing it was not Qi. How did you set up the pogo pin option?

Can somebody just buy one of these and set it up for me so it works perfectly and I don't have to figure it all out?
What an excellent idea!
Although I would probably need a tutor to teach me how to use it too.
