My cousin moved there from Phoenix this past summer, she doesn't know what to think about it.

Phoenix is opposite, too damned hot there in the summer, for me. Both extremes make life hard.

I used to enjoy it a bit, now it just makes my life harder. I guess it at least makes us appreciate spring. My warehouse is like a freezer now. It sucks even walking inside there. Was there today.

Shrinkage? My thingy looks like a door bell button. :vardy

A person can last maybe an hour outside, in heavy clothes, if you get stranded. Then you go to sleep and don't wake up. I know a good percentage of youse guys are in this cold front too. Be careful out there. Especially everyone in the predicted insane coming snow storm.

I recently watched that blizzard of '49 show from PBS Wyoming, they found a lot of rigid dead people when the snow finally melted. I have been through several blizzards, our last one was in 2010. White out conditions, high winds, and 3 feet of snow. You get stuck out in that shit, you don't have much of a chance. Take the warnings seriously, stock up on supplies (hopefully you already have), and stay home. Mother Nature can be a bitch. :deal

I hate this time of year, wet cold and windy. OK we don't get the crazy cold you guys have at the moment but its not weather for doing anything outside.
I wanted to go to the Canary Islands for xmas, I finished work on the 22nd and would have liked to have some heat and sun to look forward to but my family seems to like staying inside and the whole xmas thing.
Last year at this time I was adamant that I wasn't going to be here next xmas but here I am a year later doing the same shit.
Did I say I hate this time of year here?:-)

When I was a small boy my Dad was transferred from Dallas to Waterloo, Ia. Every winter he swore he was moving back to Texas. He used to say "these people up north are not stupid they just don't know any better". Finally in 73 he did. I on the other hand waited five years later. That winter we had over 30 days where the temperature NEVER got above 0 deg. That was it for me. Iowa is not conducive to happy motorcycling. Here in Dallas is almost year round riding.

Here begins the deep freeze, it's -1* right now, with a high of 1* F. :vardy

But I am having some happy summer thoughts! A very generous and kind inmate sent us a Wisconsin Parks family pass, and some good suggestions of where to camp! :thumb

Wisconsin is only about 5 hours away, my kids can manage that trip. Cheese Land here we come in 2018! Thanks buddy!! :wave

Just got back from Mr Kamikaze's place, with the kids. OMG it is cold!! It's actually hard to breathe, it's so damned cold!

I bought 4 RD400's for $4200, and made a trade on something else.

I know I haven't been posting many pics, will try to soon. Just been cooped up in the shop, and when I go out, I do whatever needs done FAST. Weather service says it's 2* here and it's about to get colder. I bet this is our coldest weather in many years. Insane! Wish I had a wood burning stove in the shop... although I really can't due to the gas/solvent/chemicals out here. Would sure be good weather for a fire.

Cold enough here to freeze the balls off a brass monkey! Looks like a week of super cold, then a warm up. 30* will be nice compared to this.

The story goes that cannonballs used to be stored aboard ship in piles, on a brass frame or tray called a 'monkey'. In very cold weather the brass would contract, spilling the cannonballs: hence very cold weather is 'cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey'. There are several problems with this story, as follows:

    • the term 'monkey' is not otherwise recorded as the name for such an object
    • the rate of contraction of brass in cold temperatures is unlikely to be fast enough to cause the reputed effect
    • the phrase is actually first recorded as 'freeze the tail off a brass monkey', which removes any essential connection with balls.
It therefore seems most likely that the phrase is simply a humorous reference to the fact that metal figures will become very cold to the touch in cold weather.

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to you Cuz and family. Sorry it's so cold where you are. It's a very mild 24C/75F New Years Day here in Adelaide South Australia . The temp. will be increasing by a few degrees every day until Saturday when we have a forecast high of 40C/104F. Some lovely weather until then. I ride all year round, even in 40C. The coldest weather we have is just below freezing and a very rare max around 46C/115F. Having seen some of the images of the US on the news, I could not imagine long periods of super cold weather like you guys have at the moment. Stay warm and safe in those terrible conditions

Thanks, Happy New Year to you too!

It's every bit as bad as you see on the TV news, I think about 75% of US in in this deep freeze. It's brutal!

I have a shop full of parts, plus 5 full bikes right outside the door. I can hole up pretty easy for a week or two. Just have to haul out clean and listed parts once in a while, and even that sucks. My warehouse is just a few degrees warmer than the outdoors. It's terrible in there and I don't spend any time there that I don't need to.

Today I kept the shop at 62* F (17* C) which is about as cold as I can manage... it takes a tremendous amount of electricity... the walls are insulated very good, but the cement floor radiates a shit load of cold air mass. The temp dropped 10* F when I shut the heat off for an hour to go make and eat dinner.

You can't imagine the elation we feel at spring time, when it gets this cold! Maybe 75 days until the birds return, and the grass begins to get green. :happay
