Interesting. Didn't know it'd actually been sold.
I think this was the second time it had been auctioned-off with the first buyer falling-through.
Interesting place. If I had a few million laying around I might have taken a stab at it. But then again, I did have some property over in Gilmer Co. a few years ago. When it became obvious I was going to inherit it, my wife flatly proclaimed: "I AM NOT moving to West Virginia!"
So much for that. :-(
Want to sell your land in Gilmer. I grew up just across the line in Braxton.
Keyword - did. Let it go about 10 years ago. Was on Mineral Road, just off of 119/33/5 heading out of town. Place had been in the family since the late 1800's, but the house needed a lot of work. With no one there to keep the place up, it would have gone in the crapper quickly. Probably could have turned it into a rental for some of the college students, but with no local control that could have turned into a disaster. Was best to just let it go.
So the question remains, will the tag sit in Pendleton county for the winter? Or is some fall foliage seeker going to move it before it gets too cold?
The old Sugar Grove Naval Station on CR-21.
New owners didn't appear to be home.
google and the Visit Pendleton web site were useless as far as a location for this, so....
It's located on Schmucker Rd. a few miles east of Upper Tract. 38°46'37.5"N 79°14'41.6"W
Great riding in that area. One of my ride reports has photos of the area - scroll down about 3/4 the way, just past the Spring Run Fish Hatchery.
Also just over halfway through this RR, I go right past the tag........
Recommend the ride over Troublesome Valley and Kiser Gap Road.
I used to own property close to there on Greenwalt Gap Rd, I know the area well.
Rode in there via Kiser Gap.
I found it through This Site
Grab: Schmucker School
I believe all the details are in the Drop post.
Pnoman, thanks for the suggestion to ride in on Troublesome Valley Rd. Very nice!
Drop: I love this Canyon. Awesome water slide at the east end. One of my favorite twisty roads just west.
On Greenland Gap Rd off of Old Scherr Rd. (Pronounced Shoor Rd by my native guides). Beautiful place, I hope to go back when I have more time to explore.
My native guides:
I went right past the turnoff the first time. :)
New tag. Location written on the jet by some scamp.
Not that it matters to me but this has been tagged before. I’m just happy that the Tag is moving. Keep it moving
I’m not surprised that it’s been tagged before but didn’t see it on the TOR map.
No worries. There are 2 maps Tag 1 to 104 and one from 104 and on. Eventually I’m going to combine them into one map.
If you look at a Google map, if that plane hiccups it'll be out of bounds.
