I guess it is time for me to chime in on this too :D I have not seen some of you in such a long time it will be great to see you all again. When John called me about this I had the same concern @Assfault so I appreciate the question. For West 38 Moto's part of this, I will offer up some short clinics on things folks might like to see in the way of riding tips and general riding in this type of terrain. I will also be leading some moderate intermediate rides for folks that haven't ridden the area. Not exactly sure what that all looks like yet. I will most likely donate a free training for the raffle but don't want to offer a full training class since that is two full days and will take up the entire event. John and I are on the same page about NOT monopolizing everyone's time with too many rally activities, but also offering tips and tricks and lead rides for those who want them. West 38 Moto will NOT be charging anything for whatever we decide to do.

    Totally looking forward to this!

    I NEED SOME QUICK FEEDBACK:

What would people think about a September 6-9 or 13-16 date for the rally?

    Pros-
Best riding weather in the San Juan's at that time. Less chance of Monsoon Rain than July or August
Fewer Jeeps on Trails. Fewer Side-by-sides and Family Jeepers
Better Chance of entire event located at KOA. They could accommodate us for all our events and campers. Cocktail parties, breakfasts, awards night etc.

    Cons:-
    School has already started
Vacation time might be burned up already
    ???

    Thanks!

I personally like Sept 6-9. Better than a lot of people on trails during monsoons, which can cause more trail damage. Also, that second week of September is Blues and Brews in Telluride, which I usually am pretty busy for. Just my 2 cents.

Sept in the Rockies is some the best time to ride, after the monsoons and before the snow, and after Labor Day.

For many of us Sept. would be out with school, sports, etc. But like Josh said, I am only one! Sounds like a blast, thanks for putting it together, I will get to one eventually.

The problem is going to be, finding a place to host a hoard of inmates that is available during the prime tourist season (Memorial Day to Labor Day).

Also I have heard for Ouray some inmates will need to use an alias, do to previous behavior.:lol3

    Thanks for the call, John.
I'm all for mid September. BMW riders can hit Sipapua, then ADV in Ouray, then the Western Slope rally the weekend after that.
Have it the weekend of the 13-16th. Riders can hit Blues and Brews for a night. Maybe do a shuttle van?
If the attendees know about it with enough time to spare, they will make it.
Having a central location where you can camp, rent a cabin and have the meals is crucial to the events success.
With that said, if enough of you can't make it, chime in now. I live in SW Colorado, so it's not me that is visiting.

    OK....

So I've spoken with a couple of the Inmates that are volunteering to help. (SW CO guys..)
    Waiting to get Dusty's input...

    But here's where I'm leaning:

Sept 6-9 is Sipapu BMW Mountain Bavarian in northern NM.
Sept 14-16 is Telluride Blues and Brews.

So; if we aim for Sept 13-16 we can get almost the whole KOA to ourselves and ensure all campers are together. They (KOA) will better be able to accommodate our breakfasts and our evening activities and we won't be drinking and riding.
Those who want to hit Sipapu can bookend the week in NM and CO. Those that want to get some Blues Culture can get tickets to a concert one night or Sunday afternoon.

It really is the best time of year to ride the San Juan's.

What's the Temperature on this idea!! ????
