Keanu Reeves is a motorcycle guy. He reportedly has a collection of about 50 different machines. And, he is the co-owner and co-founder of specialty bike manufacturer Arch Motorcycles. With just that background, you can tell he understands motorcycles and their impact on many people.
So it doesn’t seem like much of a leap to think that Reeves likes to have motorcycles in the films in which he appears. Bikes feature prominently in several of his films. The film John Wick 3 is no exception. Well, perhaps with the exception that it features some cutting edge high tech green screen and computer-generated imagery (CGI).
It turns out that Reeves and John Wick 3 director Chad Stahelski had both seen a South Korean movie called the “The Villainess”. It featured a motorcycle chase scene that they both envied. So they tried to figure out how the scene had been done. They couldn’t. So they embarked on a mission to copy elements of the motorcycle chase scene.
High tech to the rescue
Ultimately, they resorted to using highly technical green screens and CGI effects to get the job done. In the end, they were successful and the scene is pretty seamless and powerful. It’s worth a look, just to see what it takes to film a scene of this caliber using motorcycles.
I think you will enjoy the behind the camera look at the making of the John Wick 3 motorcycle fight scene. It’s a lot of work for a fairly short scene. But Reeves loves motorcycles as do many of us. And, in the end, all the hard work pays off.
