KTM has recalled certain 2015 and 2016 1290 Super Adventure motorcycles due to an issue with its fuel tank. A total of 1,588 motorcycles are affected. This recall began on March 1, 2019.
According to KTM, fuel may leak out of the fuel tank cover mounting insert. This can occur during operation or while at a stop. A leak of this kind could result in damage or possible fire with injury or death to the rider or others.
KTM has reportedly already notified owners of affected Super Adventure motorcycles. Owners should bring the affected motorcycle to a dealer who will inspect and replace the fuel tank cover mounting insert, free of charge.
Affected customers may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090 citing KTM’s recall number TB1904. In addition, owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 and reference NHTSA Campaign Number 19V087000. Alternatively, owners can go to NHTSA’s website www.safercar.gov for additional details.
