If you are an American, you may not know much about Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Morini. The brand does not sell its bikes in the US. But it does have a long motorcycle history dating back to 1936.
All current Moto Morini motorcycles have 87 degree V-twin engines displacing 1,187 ccs. But apparently, that is about to change. Moto Morini is going smaller.
In a recent announcement, the company said that they will introduce a new medium-displacement motorcycle platform. According to Italian outlet Motociclismo, the new platform will be used for different models including naked and adventure machines.
While these new models might sound tasty, Americans need not get excited. Moto Morini says that the bike(s) will not come to the US in the immediate future, although that could change. The Italian brand intends to concentrate on Europe for the present.
The company says that its motorcycles are 100% handmade in Italy and that everything you can touch is Italian. It that’s true, there aren’t many manufacturers that can make that claim in today’s global market. Most manufacturers source components from all over the world.
Having several bike models based on a single platform is not new. Moto Morini’s 1,200 cc bikes; the Milano, Corsaro, Scrambler, and Granpasso are based on a single platform. It’s very likely that the new middle-displacement machine is based upon the modular concept as well.
If this is true, it will be interesting to see how they use a modular platform to make both naked and adventure machines. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
