Honda Monster Energy’s Paulo Goncalves has won the overall victory in the Desafia Ruta 40 Rally. The Rally was the 4th round of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship. Competitors rode over 2,500 kilometers over 5 days with the top 5 moto finishers completing the rally in less than 18 hours.
The course consisted of mostly desert hard pack with finishers commenting that the going was very fast and the navigation relatively easy.
Finishing 2nd was Australian KTM rider Toby Price with Chilean Pablo Quintanilla finishing 3rd. Price missed the win by just 6 seconds overall with Quintannilla just a little over 8 minutes behind both Price and Goncalves.
Pablo Quintanilla currently leads the championship over Toby Price by just 8 points. Ruta 40 Rally winner Paulo Goncalves is 3rd just 12 markers behind.
The next round of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship will be held in Morocco with competition beginning October 5, 2018 and ending October 9, 2018. This year’s Rally will have different courses among divisions so that Motos will only be running alongside Quads and Side by Sides. Cars and trucks will race on a separate course together.
This is an interesting concept to hopefully increase safety and keep the competition closer. The route starts in Fes, travels for 3 days around Erfoud and finishes back in FES.
