We have covered a lot of electric motorcycle news recently. We’ve even wondered aloud if electric motorcycles are the harbinger of death to the internal combustion engined motorcycle.
Apparently, the electric motorcycle buzz has increased enough for the famed Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to host an exhibition devoted to the electric motorcycle.
The Motorcycle Arts Foundation (MAF) and Harley-Davidson have joined forces to bring what they call the “world’s first museum exhibition exclusively featuring electric motorcycles”. Its called the “Electric Revolution”.
The exhibit will open at the Petersen’s Richard Varner Family Gallery and will explore the history and current state of the electric motorcycle and e-bike industry. There you will find 21 examples of two-wheeled electric vehicles from established manufacturers and custom builders.
A mix of electric motorcycles
The mix of electric motorcycles displayed is wide-ranging. There will be examples from production, racing, prototype, and customs. Motorcycles from Harley-Davidson, CAKE, Specialized Bicycle Components, Rolands Sands Design, Curtiss Motorcycles, Alta Motors, Joey Ruiter, and Noel Connolly will be featured.
Motorcycle Arts Foundation participation
MAF curator Paul d’Orleans explained the exhibition:
“We are creating history with the world’s first exhibition of any type to feature two-wheeled electric vehicles exclusively. The electric motorcycle industry is exploding with new players investing in an electric future, and this exhibit will showcase contemporary manufacturers as the trail blazers of the industry and pay homage to electric pioneers.”
Harley-Davidson main sponsor
The Harley-Davidson’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand, Heather Malenshek also expressed her excitement.
We are thrilled to support the Motorcycle Arts Foundation and participate in the Electric Revolution exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Harley-Davidson is at the forefront of the changing consumer landscape within motorcycles and we are excited to showcase our halo product, LiveWire, within the powerful narrative this exhibit presents to the public.”
Opening night is April 4, 2019, from 6:30 to 10:00 PM and will include VIPs and press. Attendees will have access to the new exhibition, music, food, and drinks.
