Hello, Inmates, and welcome to ADVrider’s Photos of the Week number 22 for the year. We’re kicking off with a beautiful shot of a 2018 Triumph Tiger 800XCA in Scotland by @Hodge68, who made the shot not long ago on a Samsung Galaxy S20 and edited it with Snapseed in the phone. All of which suggests that the phrase “phoned it in” doesn’t mean what it used to mean, at least when it’s phoned in from Scotland.
Looking westwards down Glen Coe, from where the West Highland Way crosses the A82. A fantastic ride out from Stirling in fine July weather, through wooded valleys, past still lochs and across the heather covered moonscape of Rannoch Moor. Memories made.
Since we’re already here
(Oh sure, a little farther south, but it’s still the UK)
The author of this photo, @sleepyOwl, turned his nose up at BMW’s GS motorcycles before making an exploration of Dartmoor National Park in the southwest UK aboard a 2020 R1250 GS for the first time, and . . .
. . . man, I can see what all the fuss is about. Great bike.
Now just wait till he runs that Beemer through Snapseed. Won’t he be impressed!
From one Montana to the other Montana
The three photos below were taken by @Wellcraft in July when he rode his 2020 BMW R1250 GSA through some of America’s most spectacular country.
Summit of Dead Indian Hill Overlook, Chief Joseph Scenic Byway in Wyoming. Riding the scenic route from Bozeman, MT to Billings, MT via Yellowstone National Park and Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.
Below, another from Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.
And here, Badlands National Park, South Dakota, also in July 2021.
Head in the clouds . . .
. . . feet on the pegs. Here is a sky-high shot from @Touragrapher on his way to Leh, Ladakh, India, with his Kawasaky Versys 650 in 2017.
Milky Way nights
During a new-moon phase in early August, Skyles03 and his riding mate Chris traveled to the Alvord Desert in southeastern Oregon to see our galaxy spill its stars across the sky. The BMW R1200 GSA below was accompanied by a Yamaha Super Ténéré.
Had the chance to race / cruise the desert Playa while camping out. A great ride and a must visit if you are in the area.
Pass the basalt
The 2018 Suzuki DR650 below was photographed a few months ago under the basalt columns near Bishop, California, by @napster.
Wyoming day ride
The 2010 KTM 990 Adventure in the three photos below belongs to @Mtnmoto71, who took the shots this the spring while on a nice day ride.
A ride up into southern Wyoming from my house in Steamboat, Colorado. Rode back through North Park then back over Buffalo Pass to home. One of my favorite day rides.
Sea to sky in Bolivia
Back in the fall of 2019, Parondi12 and his brother Christian rode through Bolivia on a 1995 Yamaha TTR250 and a ’96 Kawasaki KLR250.
We rode from Santa Cruz to ToroToro, then to Cochabamba. Santa Cruz is located near sea level altitude, ToroToro and Cochabamba are up in the Andes at 7500 to 9000 feet over sea level. The trip was epic on 2 old bikes. 80% of the trip was on dirt roads.
Down to the river
In Arizona, it was, and dry and hot, it was, but @AZ TOM was on Dugas Road headingdown to the river (the Verde) a few years ago on the 2007 Suzuki DRZ400E when he shot this photo.
Have you seen this Kawaski?
The 2004 KDX 220R in the photo below was stolen from @Chilejack a year after this shot was taken on the Lockhart Basin portion of the Utah BDR in 2016. He says the KDX “was perfect for this ride.” We are sorry that it is no longer in the hands of its rightful owner.
All that’s left
Says @alpina, this is what remains of the old Apex Mine site in Colorado. “At its peak, Apex had about 1,000 residents but two fires all but leveled the town.”
That’s another Suzuki DR650 in the photo above, photographed with either a Canon M200 or a weatherproof Lumix.
There’s a couple summer cabins left with one year round resident they call the mayor. The pic of the medallion is at the upper right of the door on the building behind the bike.
Field of corn
@Tjilpi photographed his Africa Twin RD07 in front of a corn field a few years ago after crossing the Mekong River from Vientianne in Laos to Nong Kai in Thailand.
Lost in America
Sir Denis Elton-Hogg was somewhere in the United States when he pointed his iPhone at the Hondas (Trail 90 and 110) below a couple of weeks ago. “Nothing crushes it more than a Honda Trail.”
Greetings from Italy
He was riding his 2016 Honda Africa Twin when Mod4ever stopped about two weeks ago to photograph the monument below.
During a short tour in Tuscany I went to pay homage to Fabrizio Meoni, who tragically died in 2005. The monument dedicated to him is located in Castiglion Fiorentino, his birthplace.
A night in Joshua Tree
Madmaxinemoto was camped out in California’s Joshua Tree National Park with her 2019 KTM Adv when she shot the photo below on January 31, 2021. Click for a better view.
And we’ll call it a night, too, with thanks to the awesome Inmates who sent these photos and a gentle reminder to all of you to send us your pix. We love them and we need them.
