South America is an incredible continent to explore on a motorcycle. Mountain twisties and off-road trails, meandering coastal roads and desert tracks, plenty of different routes for all bikes and riding preferences – South America has got it all. But if you’re feeling like getting off the bike for a little while and experiencing something different, here are three must-see destinations in South America.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

The Galapagos need no introduction: these world-famous islands are well known for their unique nature, their weird and wonderful fauna, amazing scuba-diving, and of course, for inspiring Charles Darwin’s evolution theory.

The Galapagos are about a thousand kilometers away from the Ecuadorian coast, so the trip is costly but according to travelers, it’s more than worth it.

Easter Island, Chile

Another remote but beautiful place, the Easter Island, is also not for budget travelers, but it’s stunning scenery and the mysterious Eastern Island statues make for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Leave your bike in Valaraiso or Santiago, hop on a plane, and go exploring.

Iquitos, Peru

Peru is an amazingly diverse country where you can experience the desert, the mountains, and the jungle all in one go. Iquitos, a remote Amazonian town located in the Great Plains of the Amazon Basin, is only reachable by boat: it’s a three-day boat voyage along the rivers in a dense, humid and hot Amazon rainforest. If you don’t have the time, you can fly, but the river journey itself is an adventure.

As an alternative, you can also experience the Amazon by riding from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado, another gateway into the jungle, and taking a three or four-day tour into the rainforest on foot.
