OK, so give me an estimate on two sets of wheels - hubs, spokes and rims to fit a BMW X-Challenge for running Baja.

    18" rear

    21" front

Signature or Double Sig Excel rims (Blue), Super laced with machined or stock hubs to fit standard BMW brake fare or *Brakings* rotors and SunStar or Renthal gears.

Running D606 or Michelin Baja tires that will fit the bike?

This is going to happen for next year, it's just a matter of time... and planning.

    What say you?

    PWGS

P.S. You can PM me the answer

OK this must be somewhere i'm sure but will the HP2 larger front wheel fit the 12GS without major surgery? Is it worth it for a average rider?

Let's ask those types of questions in Woody's "Ask Woody" thread.

I'll move your post there. :thumb

The short answer, a 21" wheel can be installed on your 12GS, unless you do a lot of dirt riding with it, it's not worth the effort because of the changes in handling when riding on the road.

you should have no problem putting the 21"" front wheel on your R1200GS,,you want to remove the front fender to prevent mud build-up,,have done several dozen of these conversions in a variety of combinations,,,ie tubeless x-laced wheels,,,SUPERLACED wheels using my MONZTER spokes...look at the pics in BMW section of photo library in website below,,,:thumbwoody

PS,,,i differ with Gadget Boy regarding what is worth it or not,,,for him that may be his truth,,,my goal is to match your vision of what you want to accomplish with your bike

remember you just asked if the HP-2 wheels will fit your R1200GS,,,now for better advice ya need to tell me what ya want to accomplish with this swap...i may provide you with the same or a much different answer,,,woody

    Woody,
How does the weight of these new billet hubs and a superlaced wheel compare with the stock R12GS cast wheels that I have on the bike? I'm thinking about going with spokes- they are sooo perty!!!!!

    G'day Woody,

Im fitting up a 96 CR250 USD front end to my Honda Africa twin 750. The AT weighs 200kg so Im not sure if the standard CR wheel will cope with the weight of the AT , also the AT standard has a 1.85" front rim compared to the CR 1.6". What do you think ?? and what options would you have for me ??.

    thanks

    Greg

the 1.85x21 is a beefier rim and i'd lace that up as a great all around compromise,,,,if you are tackling lot's of gnarly single track the narrower rim will take the hits mo betta:thumb

OK Woody. I'll bite. What's the turn around time for putting new sealed 19/17 tubeless wheels (black) on my KLR hubs shipped to you from Seattle? I'm an immediate gratification kind of guy and Chris has given me some of the particulars except how long I might be without my bike :ddog It's raining right now is why I can even consider it.:2cry

and: Is there a trade in value on my stock 07 wheels or should I just ship the hubs?

ok...turnaround time in your case i'd say is 3 days if the parts are in stock,,,otherwise add a week,,,i design and do all the trick stuff,,,chris handles the running of the shop....if something happens to run out ya can add a week or two depending ,,,,stuff comes thru here in waves,,,ripples and once in awhile a tsunami,,,,it's like bio-rythms,,,,sometimes it rains ,,,sometimes it pours,,,and sometimes we dang near drown....:super

if there's anything we can use/recycle we give ya some credit for it,,,otherwise just send your hubs:thumb,,,woody

    Hey Woody,
I hope business is going well. It's been awhile since we talked about new wheels for my 950. Anyway, I have a new project. Recently, I purchased this set of blue anodized Excel wheels for my 2005 Yamaha TT-R250. Do you know anything about these type wheels? Are they any good? I know nothing about these wheels other than they are new! My TT-R250 is being plated for street use and light trail use. I never noticed that the new rear Excel rim is a 19" instead of the 18" that my TT-R has. Can this wheel be laced to my rear TT-R hub? I understand that I'll probably need new longer spokes. Is that all? Can I get a quote for a rebuild on the rear with blue nipples and a rim lock? Do I need heavy spokes? Any help will be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Sam

just send me what ya have and i'll make sure you get what you need,,,these rims are a stonger and aesthetic improvement over the oem rims,,,however the wrong size means they are worthless,,,,we will give you some credit for them toward the right ones,,,

the major improvement however is in superlacing the rear wheel,,,it is notorious for disintegrating ,,,it use similar spokes and patterns and hubs that have been used in a variety of forms on every 125/175 dual sport/enduro Yamaha has ever made:cry

FYI,,,i got my start in business as well as my reputation for tuff wheels by solving this problem 34 years ago,,,many of these bikes are still in use !!!! with the customers never having touched their spokes again:thumb

OBTW,,,FYI,,,,what you are talking about are called rims,,,the ''wheel'' is the complete assembly consisting of the hub,the rim and the spokes that connect them,,,,ohhh,,,and the 19'' rim would need a tire that would most probably be too big to fit in your bike...not good,,,cost???circa less than $500 off the top of my head,,,,those blue nipples are pricey,,,ss nipples would last longer,,not corrode and cost less as well IMHO even look better,,blue nipples look better contrasted against silver or black rims BWOE...yhose pretty blue/$$$ nipples would get lost in those blue rims of yours

Thanks Woody, Im just getting the front end bolted and set up with the standard CR front wheel but as the Africa twin is nearly twice the weight of the CR250 I'd really like to get a complete stronger front wheel made up. What type of hub / 1.85" rim / spokes combo would you recomend and what would be the cost of the complete wheel ??

    thanks
    greg

    greg et al,,,,

the simplest most costeffective and strong bang for the dollar is to just send it in as is and we'll superlace a 1.85 x21 sun or excel rim to it with hopped up lace pattern,,,circa $350 depending on nipples we use and color/brand of rim

PS,,,i highly recommend redoing the forks ie beefier springs///and getting it revalved and set up for your weight and riding style:wink:

My WM sent my pusher, hack and spare to you yesterday. Per her instructions I put an envelope on all three with the data your website asks for on a piece of paper inside each (they are packaged seperately so if you don't get all three I'd like to know about it).

When we talked this past Monday I forgot to ask you some stuff regarding the Superlace job, so I called back Tuesday and spoke with Chris who answered the rest of my questions. War Pig and I look forward to their return, Marine! :devildog

Woody, for my planning process and financial well being. What is your lightest time of the year?

I'm thinking of getting the two sets (per e-mail with Chris) done sometime this winter before June, but if there is a better month in there let me know.

Obviously these are completely new wheel sets, so I have nothing to send.

Refresh: Two (sets) super strong racing wheels for the BMW XCH on RAD hubs with rim of your choice. Think Baja 1000. :evil

we're working on the RAD conversion,,,as we speak,,,the only ""better time" is for reserved for the x-laced tubeless GS wheel owners,,,,ie...if i'm not here no wheels are being worked on,,,so a mo better time for them has to be synchronized with my presence in the shop:wink:

Nope (not tubless) trick motocross/enduro wheels with tube type tires.

    I'm thinking Feb or March...

    Thanks Woody
