What a year does,lol And after riding the X in cold weather, I sure do like the Thermostat on the 450L,,,, Im sure the carb model X might really like it in the NE.

So with all the posts out there with Vortex and ex,,,, NOT ONE PERSON HAS OR KNOWS WHAT MAP THERE USING WITH PC EX ? sO is Mitch selling vortex s with a map of his own in it ? if I could figure out how to put a bit of timing in L, I really would go back to the BP/BM,, I rarely go above 8500 rpms, Unless KB is around, than I got him anyway,isnt it 5 lbs a hp,, so ,, hes buying,,,
PC is an odd duck. It’s the least restrictive, makes the most power, and is also the most expensive. I doubt you’ll see it on many 450Ls. I had a test slug for a brief time. It wanted damn near all the fuel a JD Tuner could supply it. PC did extensive R&D on the 450X for the race teams. But those bikes run JD units, not Vortexes.
Thanks BTaco,,, I figured that about the PC, as I wrote about all 3 pipe makers back in Oct 2018, my theory,,, figuring the PC would be the best, and I new Mitch would build it and test it old school way.... and make it work with just the DBK box, so in the long run,,, It runs better ,is tunable,and package is cheaper,,,, Go Figure, funny I built mine months before much was out,old school way, and im glad its almost a copy of mine,,, yea Mitch knows his sht, and as always the man from mars is crazy,,, That the diffrince of me being in PA and Mitch in Cal,,lol and PC was last one out,,,hummm, old school,,,,
Ya no BTaco,,, Not many of us left, that don't buy things now for what is claimed on paper for the product . And we don't buy by that,we only take that at 1/3 of the value ,1/3 for the reliability of the maker, and 1/3 for the seat of the pants,preformance/ rideabilty/tunning of product in the real world. yep if you belived adds in the hot rod world, adding this air cleaner is 12 %,headers,15%,cam 28%,intake 14 %.... Heck with bolt ons add all the %s up and I will be getting another 70 % hp,,,,right ? 1 hp on a 300 lb bike is like 25 hp on a car by feel,stop watch,ease of riding faster,longer,,, on our 3150 scca road race cars, im sure weight was added at 25 lbs a hp,,, But than it relates to the weight added to car and figured out by per lap time difference to even the cars lap times out. so I cant put it in English, only mars, we put weight on other cars in our class or taken weight off, by lap times, and it all boild down in my mars mind, comparing weight to HP,all the top 10 cars no matter lap times, had within 10 if not 5 hp difference , you no what I mean, im getting spun out thinking,,,got to get some work done,,,lol Think im only going to drill some 3/16 holes only in my L seat,,,lots to say on that,,,lol Wait, ill get marrsed out when it get really cold, stock up the popcorn,,,lol UNLESS,,,someone asks me to come to Cal to keep busy ,have some beers with Mitch and Jody,LOL you have to enjoy your work,as ive done for 50 years, it really isn't work or a job if its that way,and it prides you, its what you love doing, Hell sometime I get paid,,,,LOL Life Self Employed,,,,as I sit here cold on the couch ready to start my day,,lol after noon news,,, Racing and building things to me is ,,, LIKE HUNTING SEASON,,,i don't want to quit cuz of the dark,and I cant wait for the Sun to come up,,, Winter ,cold here is killing me,,, Time to change as of 2020,,,, 36 years here working and living in same building,walking to work down the step,,, Its hard for me to do and decide how to do it, but I have a place 3 miles from here, so, that's a start, and it will let me do more I hope. if planed right,,, Another rock garden I will get through,as ive always done.

Well at one time I was going to buy a seat,but after vortex I had to slap myself and just ride the damage thing,so winter sets in,and I take cover off,and no think do I really need one,? Well after 3800 miles my thoughts about the hard seat have gone away,and did I think to myself,,jezze I really haven't thought about the seat in last 500 miles,even doing the same pavement rides I did early on months and miles ago,and realise same rides now I don't even 5hink about my skinny ass, so,,,, Before I cut ,mold glue new foam in ,I'm take it to Marrs, And as a martian,make Swiss cheese in a couple spots. So I mark were I sit on single track Forward line and we're I would sit board on the pavement,, and mark rear line,plus crochet line,and tail bone,,, And used a long 3/16 drill bit to make the spacing same as if you were looking at spacing of 55 gal barrels stacked on there sides, and on sides I drilled at angle towards the thick seat foam base bumps,, On top I drilled at an angle were my other body parts hit. Funny thing is,some one put some thinking of were you sit ,cuz after I marked sides and top, right below those points is the base large bumps of added foam thickness,, So I'm glad I dint jump to soon,,and I'm stapling it back on,,and it's 45 deg out,rain for 2 days so brine is washed off roads,, yep road test 2020,,
Well after riding the 08x for 2 months, I'm a bit happy and stunned, , Rock Garden,,here we go,2020. After 1 year, working on L in stages ,a year ago,I just wanted it to run and be smooth With the feel,power,mpg,of the 08x,that's pretty sweet,figuring that the L should have same hp/tq as X, but smoother,with mpg the same or better.it was dam close to X with bp,ex,dbk, than I did vortex, tried 5 different maps,but 1 map was good but slow,next power but not smooth with no mpg,and I wanted smooth down low,and nice pull/hit in mid,and not to crazy top. I could get one part of throttle good with one map at one point,but missed mid or top,I'd get good top with another map but not in all 3 places together, so after settling on a map that was close to what I wanted , In low,mid ,high, I fine tuned it with the DBK, To see if I could have the best of 3 world's in one map,,,and for a week I adjusted for that, for 2 months 1000 miles I rode it not tucking tune,I had it pretty dam good,learned a lot about FI,maps,points of engagements.but wasn't sure,once I got back on x,they were close,but thought that with bp/bm,than the ex,bp,dbk,,and each time I got back on the x,it was close but was not to my liking, same with the vortex. Even before I bought the L,I figured it needs help,but there is no reason, it can't have same hp/tq, smoothness mpg that my X has,but better every place. So basically an X with new technology, so,,,as much as the X was more rideable at the start compared to the L ,it was off 100% from the x, and only expected I could get them dam even,in performance ,ride ablity, ,, I got close but never was super happy with it. And would ride the x to compare it to. So I tuned on a map I could deal with and Rode,checked 02,ex Temps ,and stayed off the X,, We'll I rode X for 2 months and let L sit after I felt what tune I did to it was really sweet, But as alway I would get on X and say to myself ,it's 20% better,than 50 % , till I felt it was 100% better and dam even with the X.. Than didn't ride since Oct,just x. Well I did seat today on L ,and rode the L for the first time since October with Marrs tune in it,to compare aginst the X. If someone gave me a blank checkbook ,today With unlimited funds,and said make yourself a perfect 450L that is as smooth as electric power wise, and you can't spend money on accessories like spare wheels,gas tanks.....just perfect power/rideability , usefulness. If someone offered me that checkbook today,,, I'd only spend money for light rim locks. As far as the X was ahead of the L a year ago,,% wise,,, My L is now not 100 % better ,or even with the X But passed it and added 50 % over the X. 2 tanks of gas and ran hard, and first tank was 42.0 and second 41.4 mpg,, With electric power, and if I need a bigger hit or more power mid,top,I can do it in seconds, ,,to change power, but I'm not touching 0 to 6500 rpms, it's unbelievable now. Pipe has great color,good mpg ,and so smooth. It is perfect, and I'm pretty picky to say it's that good now.
I’m sure if you had the software to adjust the vortex you could tune it to your custom pipe it is available but expensive glad you found a way to make it work. I can’t believe you still have the stock tank on there.
