Triumph has revised its Street Triple R naked bike for 2020, giving it a mild makeover and a few technical tweaks.

Changes for this season include an up/down quickshifter, a feature previously only found as standard equipment on the RS model. Triumph also re-worked the stainless 3-1 exhaust and airbox, supposedly resulting in a better-sounding engine, but realistically, this was most likely due to the requirements of upcoming Euro5 emissions regulations (which the Street Triple R now meets). Triumph also lightened engine internals, so while output hasn’t changed (still rated for 116 hp and 57 lb-ft of torque), there’s supposed to be a better mid-range and less engine lag.

The liquid-cooled 765 cc triple (six-speed gearbox, shift-assist clutch) should also run more quietly, a major sticking point for noise emission requirements. European regulators are not a fan of loud pipes.

The bodywork also gets a bit of an overhaul, with new paint and graphics and new headlights and mirrors. There’s certainly nothing shocking here.

The brakes appear to be pretty much the same, with 310 mm front discs mated to four-piston Brembo monobloc calipers with ABS. The rear 220 mm disc has a single-piston Brembo caliper.

Suspension, also, is basically the same as the outgoing model, with fully-adjustable Showa Big Piston Separate Function forks, and a fully-adjustable Showa shock. The LCD display (wot, no TFT?) has a gear indicator, digital speedo, analogue tach, and four riding modes available.

The best news, perhaps, is the Street Triple R sees a price drop for 2020, with US customers now paying $700 less, with a $10,500 MSRP. More details at Triumph’s website.
