Another great day. It started with a guy right across from my hotel with hot coffee at 6am ! Unheard of that early. I got a nice early start and put several miles on in the cooler morning temperatures.

Always stay alert and never ride at night. There was no warning before this one. The whole road collapsed.

I did some toll road today. It was lightly travelled and scenic. I had pretty good shoulder to run my 40 mph. I actually enjoyed it.

I decided to stop at Acayucan for the night. Hotel Ritz is very nice. Nice shower for washing my riding clothes. A place to hang them in the parking lot. I got the motorcycle insurance handled and a Telcel simm card. A lot done and all is good. Time to go find supper and cerveza.

If you end up in Perote for the night the Hotel Del Centro is right in the center close to dining options. When riding into town there are good views of the volcano if I remember correctly.

    Acayucan to Teotitlan.

    Another most excellent day.
I am going to break today into two parts. The first half of the day was way different than the second half.

    39873909-64FD-4A4D-B587-55353D7DEB83.png

I first went for coffee and a roll. I sat in the park to eat it and soon had company wanting to share.

    76083B55-631A-4DE7-A53D-64DD1789550B.jpeg

Then an obviously homeless young man with one shoe come along asking for money. This is always hard for me. I want to give him money but not sure it’s the right thing to do. I gave him a measly 5 pesos but he wanted more. I offered him half my roll but he declined it.

I got back to the hotel and got ready to leave. These two guys were watching over my bike and were quite noisy about it.

It has rained hard the last two nights. So far I haven’t gotten wet. Until today. I took off in good time but soon hit drizzle. Not bad but continuous. The sky was completely overcast and restricted much of what I could see. Even so I enjoyed the ride through an agricultural environment.

The scenery was getting real dramatic but the rain and fog sure dampened it.

Seriously this road needs to be on your short list. I can’t accurately describe it or even show you properly. The views along this twisted up pavement are incredible. I will just drop some pics and leave it at that. I have seen a lot of breathtaking scenery and I can tell you this had me in awe. Just wow.

As I continue my trek to the north I consult google maps and my garmin. This morning google showed a squiggles road going north but garmin wasn’t very proud of it. I had to zoom in super tight to see it (500 ft scale). Looks good to me away I go. Oh boy did it deliver. Beautiful fresh pavement and great vistas.

Zoom in and look at the goofy pavement marks. On the tight curves they have you switch over to the wrong side of the road. I assume this is so long trucks can clear the guard rails. Doesn’t seem to help the guard rails were mostly swished and tore up on the tight curves.

As I walked around looking for supper I found this restaurant. Google says it is barbecue. The name looks Asian. But I swear that is a cat. I didn’t eat there. I was going to but they ignored me when I went in and there were no other customers.

Yes the blue route is what I rode. The sign I was at is for a school not the town. I see the town is not on that route. Here is a screen shot of where I took the picture. If you zoom into the area on google maps i think you will see what I mean.

    Screenshot_20230317_072853_Maps.jpg

I thought it was a town when I took the picture. I wouldnt have included the picture in the ride report had I known.

If it helps this is my satellite tracks from that day. It sends a signal every 10 minutes so only the dots are an actual true location.

I agree Cal. A lot of it they don’t have to bend over pull weeds. I would think erosion would be a problem.

    Huatusco to Perote

Another most excellent day. I got up this morning and began to decide my route that generally takes me towards home. I have to go to Perote. Why Perote you say? Well because @Cal told me to. I see one of those ridiculously knarled up little roads going in that direction so away I go. Garmin really did not like this one. It couldn’t find a way. One of those no way to get there from here things. Google had an idea though.

    841DE0D7-3383-4459-BD8E-4F5C7616DF02.png

it worked out well . I expected a lot of rock roads here but it was mostly paved. Once again great vistas. Got over 10000 feet above sea level.
