don't know what you consider inexpensive, but the do it yourself kit from SeatConcepts is only about $160 plus shipping. Love my SC Tall seat.
I got to go out on a little camp and ride with my friends this past weekend. I just don't know how a person can have a better time! I love my DR and all the cool friends it has made me.
I too wasted $20 on that Coleman/Maddog seat cover.... Finally coughed up for a Sargent- extends my comfort time by a good 10 fold...
Howdy folks! Anyone in the Utah area interested in a trade for a 2007 KLR650? Great bike, runs great, just a shade under 10K miles (9820 I believe, I am at work and it is not). It is an awesome bike, but I am not the tallest guy and I think where the DR650 has the lower setting on the suspension, that would be perfect for me. If anyone is interested, I can post some pictures. Cant do the fly and ride, my budget does not allow for it right now.
I'm happy with mine. Extended numb butt from 20 miles to about 40-50 miles of sitting. Off road days I move around and never have seat issues, even on 7-8 hour days.
I'm happy with my cheap Mad dog seat cover too. I have it over my Corbin. With just the Corbin it would get uncomfortable after 8 to 10 hours. With the cover it's pretty much unlimited. It's thin, not much of a difference, but for me it works. I found that it isn't water resistant at all so it will get soaked in the rain and you will have a soggy bottom, liberal doses of outdoor-rated scotch guard takes care of that. You can connect your USB port to a switched wire and it won't drain your battery when not in use. There's a unused switched wire behind the headlight shroud. If I remember right, it's a plug with black/brown wires.
I run my USB off an adapter plugged into my battery tender port. My phone doesn't draw enough power to make a difference in my battery capacity. I'll plug my phone into the charger at night while setting camp and then unplug it before I go to sleep. It's never drained the battery enough to make starting an issue the next morning. Depending on what you use the USB for though, it may be beneficial to switch it.
The reason to put it on a switched circuit is that most USB adapters draw *some* current all the time. It can be enough to kill a battery if the bike doesn't get ridden for 3 weeks or more.
Yeah, I didn't think of that since mine plugs into the SAE port and when I'm done using it I unplug it so that's not an issue. It's a real handy item, bought it from my favorite Oregon based DR650 accessory dealer
^^ 205'd x 2 fwiw: Most USBs have a parasitic draw. (I'm sure they could switch off when the power is cut, if the circuitry was made that way, but it isn't on most, if any) If your bike sits for more than a week it could become a problem, if your battery is on its last legs it could become a problem, if it's cold ... yada yada. My Garmin 276C GPS (discontinued) will run the battery down far enough in 4 days that the bike won't start (with the GPS off). There are others that will do the same IIRC.
